Ministry of the Sick
Ministry of the Sick
Called by the Holy Spirit and as an extension of the Pastor's care to those in need, Ministers to the Sick and Homebound bring the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist to those Catholics who are unable to attend mass.
Besides visitation to private homes, we provide communion and prayer liturgies at the assisted living and rehabilitation facilities, hospital and hospice centers in our parish's area of responsibility.
Additional training beyond the initial hours needed to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion are received at the parish level. Background, fingerprinting and safe environment tests are performed to ensure our vulnerable population and our ministers are safe. Mandates are administered by the Diocese of Orlando based on the Pastor's recommendations.
Ongoing spiritual and educational training is required to continue serving as Ministers to the Sick and Homebound.
